Bronte Public Housing has released his debut single ‘Sleepyhead’, the perfect amalgam of all things summery, sweet and splendid.

The perfect soundtrack for a day at the beach or a lazy Sunday in is here, thanks to Bronte Public Housing’s debut single ‘Sleepyhead’. The brand new track is as light, woozy and fuelled by the splendour of sunlight. It’s the epitome of Summertime.

The project of Sydney’s Jimmy Heathwood, (frontman of rock outfit Hiaground, who played Australian Music Week this year), Bronte Public Housing demonstrates an exciting and unheard versatility from the multi-instrumentalist. A cool blend of indie rock and psych-pop, the dreamy and peppy instrumental drifts effortlessly, with the sentimental lyrics and irresistibly cheery melodies echoing those feel-good, hazy mornings.

“‘Sleepyhead’ was recorded in 2017 as a demo but that original, spontaneous recording is what ended up the final version. It’s got a feeling of freedom and nostalgia that I cherish,” Jimmy explains.

Capturing his DIY aesthetic, the accompanying music video is entirely self-shot on Super 8 film. Bringing the bright aura to life, the clip sees Heathwood and his friends across the salty Northern NSW beaches. A fitting visual accompaniment, the video is warm and nostalgic, playing out like the long lost tape to an old family holiday.

While this is the first taste of Bronte Public Housing, the project was dreamt up in late 2017 whilst Jimmy was in the studio with close collaborator/producer Oscar Sharah (Mesmeriser, Oscar & The Grouches). Together they have a long history since their first bands in early 2013, and Sharah’s production flourishes complement Heathwood’s sound perfectly.
