Grumpy ol’ Lou Reed, who supposedly made Susan Boyle cry when he refused her permission to cover ‘Perfect Day’ earlier this year, has performed a dramatic back flip. Perhaps showing he’s a softy in his old age, the chronicler of New York City’s transvestites, drug addicts and S&M purveyors as front man for The Velvet Underground and as a solo artist, has masterminded Boyle’s soppy new video for her cover of the song.

Apparently it was revealed that Lou hadn’t cracked it at her – it was a publishing wrangle preventing her performing the song. So to make amends he jumped in to the video production. Reed says “I wanted to create a beautiful and intimate piece shot in Susan’s native Scotland and she quickly agreed.”

Meanwhile, despite the blustery conditions during filming which saw her wig blow off during a take, Boyle says: “I loved that Lou understood how much it meant to me to film in Scotland. I didn’t mind how much it rained or blew a gale – I enjoyed every minute.” Meanwhile her album of covers for bored housewives, The Gift, comes out this week.
