Watch: Kesha remembers raising hell, ugly crying and boiled needles

Fresh off releasing new single “Raising Hell” with Big Freddia, Kesha sat down with Rolling Stone to go over pivotal moments in her life. Whether she’s taking it all the way back to the first time she performed live, or recalling meetings with Rihanna and Iggy Pop, the 32-year-old singer gives plenty of insight into her career.

The interview starts with Kesha recalling the first time she performed live, in a collaborative project with her brother they called Dynamite Cop. Their first show ended with both getting kicked out of the bar they were performing at for being underage. So they moved to a different venue. “And that was the first time I saw someone smoke crack,” she recalls.

Rolling on with the teenage memories, Kesha tells of her first time raising hell by taking her mother’s minivan from Nashville to Atlanta to see Radiohead live, at the age of 13. “Is it technically raising hell if you get away with it?” she ponders.

Moving onto her career, Kesha remembers the time she first heard young kids singing her breakout single “Tik Tok” behind her on a plane, before moving onto memories of presenting an award at the Grammys with a very young Justin Bieber and meeting idols and friends like Ric Ocasek, Rhianna and Iggy Pop.

“I was going to meet with him to maybe do a song with him,” said Kesha on Iggy Pop. “I remember I was like, ‘Keep it together,’ and on the way up the stairs I just started balling – crying, like full nightmare ugly crying [with] snot. So I cleaned myself up and presented it was cool.”

Although the hilarious anecdotes don’t stop there, as Kesha tells stories from the time she got tattooed in Cuba by a man holding a baby and a boiled needle, and that one time she had to save her cat, Mr. Peeps, from a garbage can outside of a strip club.
