British rockers, Doves, appear to have finished recording their new album. The band posted a cryptic image to social media over the weekend, which seems to indicate that their latest record is finished. The album will be Doves’ first in over ten years.
The image, posted to Instagram and Facebook, is accompanied by an equally cryptic caption: “Ok now will be entering (old school ) album comping x”. The post has been enough to get the Doves faithful talking, with fans taking to social media to express their excitement.
The band’s latest post comes in the wake of an earlier tweet, in which they wrote that the album’s “mastering is in March”. If that tweet is to be believed, Doves spent February working on the album’s cover art and music videos.

A long time coming
The as-yet-unnamed album will be Doves’ first since returning from hiatus in 2018. The Cheshire three-piece played their last live shows in 2010, before taking a break spanning almost a decade. It’s believed the trio began writing and recording their upcoming album shortly after returning from hiatus, with rumours of an album release dating back to early 2019.
“Unofficially, we’ve started writing. And it’s really, really good,” bassist Jimi Goodwin told Q in March of 2019.

“I brought three to the table, (fellow band members Andy & Jez Williams) brought three to the table, we had some we hadn’t licked before that we’ve totally licked now. And they’re all really, really fucking good Doves songs.”
Doves are best known for their seminal albums Lost Souls and The Last Broadcast. They’re also a band with a history of bad luck. In fact, Doves literally formed out of the ashes of dance act Sub Sub, whose recording studio burned down in 1996. The members of Sub Sub rebranded as Doves, taking their music in a new direction and rising to fame.
