The Masked Singer is exactly what it sounds like. The reality singing competition features a number of celebrities decked out in elaborate costumes. The basic objective is to conceal their identity, but the costumes also provide a character for each celebrity to inhabit.

Season two of The Masked Singer aired between September and December 2019. The cast of characters included easily identifiable creatures such as a Fox, Rottweiler, Flamingo, Leopard and Penguin. But there were also some more unconventional players including Thingamajig, Flower, Tree, Black Widow, Egg and Ice Cream.

The Masked Singer is based on the Korean reality TV show King of Mask Singer and rolls out in the manner you’d expect from a reality TV singing contest. The key difference is that the celebrities’ identities are concealed for as long as they remain in the competition.

Hosted by Nick Cannon, season two of the show’s US variant saw four characters performing in each episode. Two characters would go head-to-head, with the losers from each contest being sent through to the smackdown round. The loser of the smackdown was then booted off the show. It was only then that their true identity was revealed.

The Masked Singer’s allure has as much to do with seeing an Egg performing ‘Just Dance’ by Lady Gaga or a Rottweiler performing ‘Maneater’ by Hall & Oates as it does from speculating about who’s behind the masks.

The season two panellists were pop singers Robin Thicke and Nicole Scherzinger as well as actor Ken Jeong and TV personality Jenny McCarthy. They too were kept in the dark about the performers’ true identities.

So what went down in season two? How long did it take for people to figure out who was behind the masks? And who was the ultimate victor? Find out in our recap below.
