Through all this COVID-19 induced darkness, Dolly Parton has been a beacon of unrelenting light. Aunt Dolly has just announced plans to pledge $1 million to the Vanderbilt Hospital in Nashville for COVID-19 research and support.
“My longtime friend Dr. Naji Abumrad, who’s been involved in research at Vanderbilt for many years, informed me that they were making some exciting advancements towards research of the coronavirus for a cure,” Parton shared in a social media post. “I am making a donation of $1 million to Vanderbilt towards that research and to encourage people that can afford it to make donations.”
Dolly Parton isn’t the only knight in shining armour to come out of the music community. Last month it was revealed that Rihanna would $5 million to relief efforts amid the coronavirus pandemic. $700,000 of that money was dedicated to the purchase of ventilators for her home country Barbados.
In other news, Dolly Parton recently announced that she will be spending her time in self-isolation hosting weekly readings of children’s books — which is about as wholesome as it gets.
“Goodnight With Dolly” will see the country star read from a selection of works, including two of her own books, I Am a Rainbow and Coat of Many Colors,. The series is set to launch on April 2nd and will run for 10 weeks.
“This is something I have been wanting to do for quite a while, but the timing never felt quite right,” Parton shared in a statement. “I think it is pretty clear that now is the time to share a story and to share some love. It is an honor for me to share the incredible talent of these authors and illustrators. They make us smile, they make us laugh and they make us think.”
