Following a fatal bus crash in 2015, The Ghost Inside has returned with their new single, ‘Aftermath’, where they also announce their new, self-titled album.
Back in 2015, American metalcore band The Ghost Inside survived a harrowing experience – their tour bus was involved in a serious, head-on accident with another vehicle resulting in the death of their driver as well as deaths in the opposite vehicle, leaving the band being seriously injured.
After five years, the talented collective is back, announcing their new, self-titled album, and offering up their new single ‘Aftermath’. Bassist Jim Riley has shared the details of the new track, noting that it is very much influenced by the long road to recovery they’ve had to take.
“We went into the writing process knowing full well that every song and every lyric would be influenced by what we’ve been through, but we tried our best for them to be relatable to everyone,” Riley details.
“With ‘Aftermath’ we let it be much more personal – this one is us telling OUR story. So when it was time to choose a first song to share with the world, it felt right for it to be ‘Aftermath’. It allows anyone that listens into our world, but it also lets us put final punctuation on that chapter of our lives.”
“‘Aftermath’ is a total catharsis for us. We let it all out in the song so that it’s not bottled up inside us anymore and we can heal and move on, since after all, the beat goes on.”
The band has also announced the follow up to their 2014 album Dear Youth, noting that the new album was actually forming prior to their accident, but their time in recovery obviously delayed the album heavily, with frontman suffering from a fractured back, ligament damage, and two broken ankles, while guitarist Zack Johnson survived through 13 surgeries to repair his femur, thus far, and drummer Andrew Tkaczyk going through the process of losing a leg.

Although their journey the past five years has been unimaginably tough, Riley insists that “this isn’t about what happened to us.”
“We won’t get lost in that one day. This is about our journey, our growth, and who we are.”
The Ghost Inside’s self-titled album will be out on June 9th, via Epitaph Records.
