American alt-rockers Linkin Park are “working up” some new music from home, according to bassist Dave “Phoenix” Farrell in a recent interview.

Has quarantine got you bummed that there aren’t live shows on right now? Well, at least bands are using this collective amount of free time to conjure up some goods for us. So far, we’ve seen Metallica say that there’s a possibility of a new album due to quarantine, and now Linkin Park have stated similar means.

In a recent interview with with Dan Really Likes Wine, an online wine show, bassist Dave “Phoenix” Farrell takes place in a wine tasting and chat with the host to discuss what the band has been up to since the outbreak of COVID-19.

While the bassist began the interview by saying that the bands plans are on hold during the pandemic, he did state that they’re being creative from home: “At this point right now, I think globally we’re all doing a version of the same thing, you know, trying to stay home and trying to stay as healthy as possible.”

While discussing what the band is up to, Phoenix did reveal that they’ve been staying in contact, as well as doing Zoom meetings, including “working up ideas” for new music.

“For us, with the band, we’ve been kinda writing and doing that before this all started, so casually at this point we’re doing Zoom meetings to eat lunch together and say, ‘Hi.’ But we’re not able to get together and write or do that whole bit. So working at home a little bit, working up ideas.”

I’ve been playing a lot of drums, just to do something new,” he continued. “I’ve been doing that for the last year, year and a half, and purposely making as much noise as possible to create my own space in the house.”

As we near the third anniversary of the death of former Linkin Park frontman Chester Bennington, Phoenix and the band have spoken about the potential for new music for the past couple of years, as well as sourcing a new vocalist.

Back in 2018, Phoenix spoke with SirusXM about their future plans, and things were chocked-up to “I don’t know,” mainly.

“The five of us, we still love getting a chance to hang out. We hang out quite a bit. I think we will do music again. We all want to. We all still enjoy being together and being around each other.”

While, at this stage, it is unknown when new music will come about, just hearing the words that the band is “working up” some new ideas is enough to give fans something to talk about.
