SULT is the brainchild of Wollongong twins Cori and Paige York. The power-duo have just unleashed their last single, ‘Gaslight’, an empowering exhumation of an emotionally abusive relationship. A searing slice of indie-rock heaven that harks back to the confessional power of Liz Phair.

“This relationship led me to believe that I was going insane. Mixed messages, constant lies, being loved one minute and hated the next,” Cori explains. “We hope we can highlight how a toxic relationship can deteriorate one’s mental health and make them seem like a different person.”

The track was produced with Jack Nigro (Middle Kids / DMA’s), it’s a truly cathartic listen. We were desperate to know more about SULT, so we sent them through a few burning Get To Know questions. Pop on their track below and see what they had to say for themselves.

How did your artist name come about?
Originally Paige we liked the same SALT, after Paige drew a picture in her notebook of the ‘Salt Bae’ dude. We felt like it just wasn’t right until we changed the ‘A’ to a ‘U’. We realised that at first glance, it looked like it said ‘SLUT’. We both looked at each other and said YES! It meant so much to us that at first glance you might assume its this derogatory term. Much like how women may be portrayed as “slut’s” when they don’t conform to societies idea of what a lady should be as many of us have. So yea, SULT!
How would you describe your music to your grandma?
Its a bit of a sexy bop grandma, you’ll LOVE it!
Tell us about a few of your tracks; their titles and what they’re about?
‘Gaslight’ our freshest single focuses on a toxic relationship and how a manipulative partner can cause damage to a person’s mental health.
‘Caroline’, is our first single. Its about some of the people in our lives that have let us down and learning how to let go and move on.
‘I wanna’ is one of our faves on the set list, yet to be recorded and its about SEX!
What do you love about your hometown?
Wollongong is amazing! Not only do we have the best beaches but the music scene is AMAZING! We have NG Sunday’s,  LA LA LA’s, Howling Wolf and so many more. We have so many amazing and talented friends here and we couldn’t see ourselves living anywhere else.
Career highlight so far?
The Cambridge Hotel for the Hottest 100 Party this year! We had the pleasure of supporting Last Dinosaurs, Slowly Slowly and so many more. It was so much fun.
Fave non-music hobby?
Cori’s favourite hobby is painting (She painted Paige a giant penis for their birthday this year). Paige loves to play sport of any kind. CRL, AFL, Soccer, etc
What’s on your dream rider?
Simple, A jumping castle. cheese platter.  beers.
Dream music collaboration?
Dream music collab for us would be with Nothing But Thieves. They are such incredible musicians. Conor Mason has the biggest voice and writes the most magical lyrics and melody lines.
Where do you see yourself in 10 years?
In 10 years we just hope to be happy and healthy. Hopefully we will have released a couple of albums by then.

Our go-to is and will always be ‘Take on me’ by ‘a-ha’!
