Liam Gallagher performs ‘Eh La’ live in the studio in the new video upload. The former Oasis frontman recently pushed back the release of his MTV Unplugged album to September.
Can Liam Gallagher play guitar? It’s one of rock music’s great unsolved mysteries. Until now, that is. The junior Gallagher has just uploaded a live acoustic performance of the unreleased solo track ‘Eh La’. The video features Liam alone in the studio, wearing sunglasses and proficiently strumming away on an acoustic guitar.
So now that’s settled, we can move onto the next item on the agenda: can Liam write lyrics? ‘Eh La’ begins, “Eh la, son of a gun, what have you done today? / Come now, sing us a song, one for yesterday.” So, you be the judge.

Of course, we’ve heard Liam’s lyrics before – he took sole credit for half the tracks on his debut solo album, 2017’s As You Were, as well as a handful of from Beady Eye’s final album, BE. He also wrote the Oasis songs ‘Little James’, ‘Songbird’, ‘Born on a Different Cloud’, ‘I’m Outta Time’ and ‘Soldier On’.
‘Songbird’ is the only Liam-penned song to make it onto Oasis’ 2006 best-of compilation Stop the Clocks. It was also the shortest track on the collection, coming in at just over two minutes. ‘Eh La’ shares this brevity, falling fifteen seconds short of the two minute mark.
It’s been a big week for the release of previously teased, acoustic-led songs from members of the Gallagher family. Last week Noel Gallagher unveiled the long-lost demo of the oft-bootlegged Oasis strummer ‘Don’t Stop…’ An outtake from the band’s lacklustre mid-noughties period, it features Noel on lead vocals and apes the riff from The Beatles’ ‘Dig A Pony’. Liam is reported to have first played ‘Eh La’ at a gig in New York in 2017.
