Korn guitarist Brian ‘Head’ Welch has revealed that the band are considering revisiting their covers project, Korn Kovers.
News that the band were playing with the idea of the covers record, first surfaced last year. During a fan event in Los Angeles, guitarist Munky floated the idea with the audience. “There’s a handful of cover songs that nobody’s ever heard before.”
“We’ve been talking about the cover album forever,” added Jonathan Davis.
“But it’s making its way because each year we kind of add to the pile of it,” responded Munky. “We recorded a couple of more for this [album session] and put it aside, and no I’m not telling you what they are.”
There’s been radio silence from the band and the future of the covers album ever since, until now. In a new interview with Metal Hammer, Head was asked if the Korn Kovers record would ever come to fruition, good news — it’s looking likely.
“We have five or six done, and Jonathan Davis was really hyped on the idea of doing unique covers – just something fun,” stated the guitarist. “So we need to get back into that frame of mind. With this time off, that maybe could be a good idea – something to do while we’re at home.”
Korn have infused a bunch of classic tracks with their inimitable nü-metal flair over the course of their career. The band cave cracked off cover’s of Pink Floyd’s ‘Another Brick in the Wall’, Radiohead’s ‘Creep’, The Cure’s ‘In Between Days’ and more.
