Northlane have shared their first single for 2020, entitled ‘Enemy Of The Night’. The track premiered on triple j’s Good Nights program earlier in the week, and hit streaming services today.
The band recorded ‘Enemy Of The Night’ during the sessions for their latest album, Alien. Released last year, Alien proved a hit with fans and critics alike. However, ‘Enemy Of The Night’ didn’t make it onto the record, with the band choosing instead to release it as a non-album single.
“’Enemy Of The Night’ was the last song to be completed and is personally my favourite song from the Alien sessions,” frontman Marcus Bridge explained in a press statement.
Similarly to previous tracks, ‘Enemy Of The Night’, tackles issues close to Bridge’s heart.
“It has a similar, storytelling style to ‘Freefall’ as it recounts memories and experiences from my childhood of my father falling deeper into addiction and the desperate things people will do to satisfy those needs,” Bridge revealed.
“Despite his best efforts, he was never able to beat his demons. This song is the missing piece to the Alien puzzle and I can’t wait for everyone to hear it.”
Along with the release of their new single, Northlane announced plans to put out a deluxe, limited edition version of Alien later in the year. Alien Deluxe will be available on July 31st. It will feature 2x neon pink LPs which will contain a slew of bonus tracks and previously unreleased material.

Among the bonus tracks that will be included on Alien Deluxe is an instrumental version of ‘Enemy Of The Night’.
Earlier this year, Northlane shared a documentary focusing on the trials and tribulations of Alien’s recording process. The film, entitled ‘Negative Energy’, chronicles a band on the brink of collapse, and has amassed over 86,000 views on YouTube.
