The Chats, Sahara Beck, The Dreggs, and more will perform at a new music festival called AIRWAVES, set to take place on the Sunshine Coast next month.
The three-day drive-in music festival is coming to Nambour Showgrounds, and will be for all ages.
The inaugural festival launches with an Outer Space theme, and will kick off on Friday, July 10 and run to Sunday, July 12. Other acts set to play include Pierce Brothers, Bugs, Toxic Fox, with more to be announced.
“We’ve been going crazy not being able to play so to get this opportunity, we’re pretty frothy,” Zane Harris from The Dreggs told Nine News.
AIRWAVES will be brought to you by the team behind Australia’s largest busking festival Buskers By The Lake.
Event Director Cindy Jensen says she has been carefully planning for months, and she was inspired by news recently that music festivals may not return in Australia for two summers.
“Reading it set off a rocket launch fire inside me and I wanted to bring some confidence back into an industry that has been so hard hit and affected,” said Jensen. “I miss traveling and the freedom it brings and the spacesuit represents the feeling COVID-19 confinement has had on me personally.”

There will be plenty of safety measures in place, including contactless ticketing, door delivery of the festival’s “Cosmic Crave” snack packs, hand sanitiser distribution thanks to Greenfest Solutions and constant reminders of the 1.5metre distancing by the sub-station crew.
“It’s not just the performers who have been severely impacted, it’s everyone from the large scale production companies and venues, to the family-owned festival hire businesses and supply stores,” added Event Manager Joel Jensen.
Organisers say that parking spaces on the Nambour Showgrounds will be extremely limited, and are on sale now through OzTix and the AIRWAVES Festival official website.
