What more can we say about 2020? In a world gone mad, moments of joy can be hard to come by. And yet, here’s Billy Joel spontaneously playing a sidewalk piano.

In a video from June and now going viral, the 71-year-old piano man is playing a piano on the street in Huntington, Long Island. Is there a better definition of #wholesomecontent?

As effortlessly as butter being spread with a hot knife, Joel spontaneously zips through a cover of Shelton Brooks’ 1917 ragtime number ‘Darktown Strutters’ Ball’.

“Not bad, the action is good… Just needs tuning, and the finish is beat. It’s a perfectly good piano,” he says, tinkering with the instrument eagerly like a moth to a flame. “It’s a shame to throw it out,” he adds, before suggesting that someone should donate it to the Long Island Catholic charity St. Vincent de Paul.

Like any true piano man, Joel checks out the pedals and the finish on the keys before praising the abilities of the unloved instrument.

Billboard reports that Joel was out for a motorcycle ride when his fingers must’ve started twitching, and he was compelled to give it a go. If your nickname was the “Piano Man” and you’d be quarantining for months, then we wouldn’t blame you either.

This isn’t the first time the esteemed pianist has brought us joy during the pandemic. Back in April, he teamed up with singer-songwriter Harry Chapin‘s Long Island Cares to provide food assistance in the wake of COVID-19. “Due to the pandemic, there is an increase in need for nutritious food and a lack of volunteers,” the five-time Grammy Award winner said. “Given the risks associated with the virus, many food pantries are dealing with the loss of staff.”
