Nickelback have jump ship and plummeted into the treacherous waters of TikTok, taking part in the platforms viral sea shanty trend.

Over the Christmas period, a new TikTok trend was born courtesy of 26-year-old Glaswegian musican Nathan Evan whose acapella rendition of ‘Soon May The Wellerman Come’, an 1800s whalers sea shanty, went viral.

The video was so successful that Nathan Evans inked a three-album record deal with Polydor, and went on to release ‘Wellerman’ as an official single. The single landed at Number Four in the Official UK Singles Chart, behind songs by Olivia Rodrigo, The Kid Laroi and Little Mix.

In a TikTok update shared last week, who delivered mail as a day job, let fans know that he was able to quit his day job thanks to the social media trend. “Oh my God, I was a postman on Friday. I have just signed to the biggest record label in the world,” he said. Incredibly wholesome.

The video sparked a number of homages and recreations, including an interpretation of Nickelback’s 2005 track ‘Rockstar’, courtesy of the group Lottery Winners.

Lottery Winners shared their sea shanty interpretation of ‘Rockstar’ on January 18th, in the following days Nickelback were exposed to the video and have since jumped in on the trend.

The Canadian heroes reached out to the group, offering to combine their almighty powers and deliver a sea shanty rendition of the ages. With Chad Kroeger generously lending his vocals, the troupe delivered a performance of ‘All The Right Reasons’ with brand-new ocean-themed visuals.

If there was some depraved part of your soul that craved imagery of Chad Kroeger performing on a vessell, this should satiate those desires.

“Played Nickelback – How You Remind Me at my first ever gig in 2001,” Lottery Winners wrote on Twitter. “20 years later and I’m doing a collab sea shanty with them. Life is weird.”
