Halsey has announced that she’s pregnant and there’s nothing but happiness for her given her difficult history of health issues.

The pop star, whose real name is Ashley Nicolette Frangipane, revealed that she’s expecting a lil’ bub with her partner, writer Alev Aydin, to the world with an Instagram post showing off her growing baby bump.

Posing for a series of already-iconic pregnancy photos, Halsey captioned the post “Surprise.” She also shared the news over on Twitter with a simple tweet, writing, “my rainbow.”

And look, there’s no two ways about this, we are absolutely stoked for Halsey and Aydin, a relationship that I didn’t even know existed until this morning but must be going strong given that they’re going to be parents.

Given her history of health issues and struggles with trying to get pregnant in the past, this announcement from Halsey is pretty momentous.

The 26-year-old singer has been pretty candid about her reproductive health struggles in the past, revealing to Rolling Stone in 2016 that she had gotten pregnant the year before her career took off but suffered a miscarriage right before a show. She went on to do the show anyway, saying that it was “the angriest performance that [she’d] ever done in [her] life.”

“That was the moment of my life where I thought to myself, ‘I don’t feel like a fucking human being anymore’,” recalled Halsey. “This thing, this music, Halsey, whatever it is that I’m doing, took precedence and priority over every decision that I made regarding this entire situation from the moment I found out until the moment it went wrong. I walked offstage and went into the parking lot and just started throwing up.”

The singer has also been open about her battle with endometriosis, revealing in 2017 that she had underwent “multiple terrifying surgeries” due to it before raising awareness about the disorder during 2018 with a series of candid interviews, including one where she talked about performing through a miscarriage.

In 2019, Halsey spoke to Rolling Stone and revealed how she was considering freezing her eggs as she feared endometriosis could hinder her chances of falling pregnant.

When the singer dropped her album Manic in 2020, she explained in the album notes that the song ‘More’ was about her fertility struggles, writing, “I’ve been really open about my struggles with reproductive health, about wanting to freeze my eggs and having endometriosis and things like that. For a long time, I didn’t think that having a family was something I was going to be able to do, and it’s very, very important to me.”

“Then one day my OB-GYN tells me it’s looking like I maybe can, and I was so moved. It felt like this ascension into a different kind of womanhood,” added Halsey. “All of a sudden, everything is different. I’m not going to go tour myself to death because I have nothing else to do and I’m overcompensating for not being able to have this other thing that I really want. Now, I have a choice. I’ve never had a choice before.”

During a chat with The Guardian in February 2020, Halsey talked briefly about becoming a mother, saying that it was “looking like something that’s gonna happen” for her. Almost a year later, it looks like she was indeed correct about that prediction.

With all that she’s endured with her health over the years, we are just stoked for Halsey and Aydin right now and are wishing her nothing but good vibes for the next few months.
