Chet Hanx, son of actor’s Tom Hanks and Rita Wilson, has released a new track, inspired by his movement, ‘White Boy Summer.’
If you happen to exist in the particular silo of the internet where this is literally indecipherable to you: 1) congratulations on having more than two brain cells and 2) here is a little primer.
On March 26th, Chet Hanks took to Instagram stories to deliver a Hamletian soliloquy announcing that the forthcoming American Summer is officially “white boy summer.”
“I just got this feeling, man, that this summer is, it’s about to be a white-boy summer,” he said “I’m not talking about, like, Trump, you know, Nascar-type white. I’m talking about me, Jon B., Jack Harlow-type white-boy summer. Let me know if you guys can vibe with that.”
For context, the idea of prescribing a demographic a season was spawned in July 2019, with the release of Megan Thee Stallion’s ‘Hot Girl Summer.‘ Then, in August, the phenomenon went on to spawn ‘Christian girl Autumn’, an ode to the Starbucks-drinking, sausage curl-donning, pumpkin worshipping women of the world. Now, it’s time for white boys to have their time in the sun.
The brief is vague, though Chet Hanx has shared a series of videos delving into the “rules and regs” of the season. On what the boys are wearing (“No plaid shirts, O.K.? You can’t be looking like a picnic table out here, boys. No Sperry topsiders. That’s not the kind of white boys we’re taking about, dawg.”), how they’re acting (“No calling girls smokeshows, taking girls on dates, ankle socks, house music, telling your bros ‘I love you.’”)
Now, he’s released the soundtrack to the movement, a rap cut of the same name, complete with Hanx signature, bizarre patois accent. “Bad gyal, white don dada/ rude boy, it’s a white boy summer,” he spits whilst draped in a Jamaican flag.
