It’s not everyday that history’s music icons approve of today’s silly social media antics. But in today’s news, Tom Morello is totally cool with a TikTok that’s recently gone viral – of course involving Rage Against the Machine.

Captioned “A memorable day in 1993,” the video captures two listeners (both played by comedian Jacob Givens), one of which seems to be listening to the band for one of their first times, alongside the other listener who appears to be way more versed in the band’s politically charged rage.

The video sets the scene by announcing the title: “What it was like to listen to Rage Against the Machine in 1993.” And then things kick off as the track ‘Freedom’ blares in the background. The first guy says to the other, “This is so awesome, what are they called again?”

To which the other guy replies, “Rage Against the Machine.” Nodding in amazement, the other guy responds, “Wow. You DO have to rage against it.” And then the other guy concludes, “Totally, he sounds so ANGRY. And now I’m angry about what he’s angry about.”

Right now the video boasts a huge 2.1 million views on Twitter, as well as 1.5 million views on its original platform being TikTok. Besides the accumulation of views, the best part? Tom Morello shared it on Twitter himself. He said, “One time for the people in the back!”

Last week Rage took to Instagram to voice their opinion on the recent tragic airstrikes targeted at Palestinians. Their statement was received my mixed reviews to say the least.

They took to Instagram to stand in solidarity with Palestine, writing, “The violence and atrocities we are witnessing in Sheikh Jarrah, the Al Aqsa compound and Gaza are a continuation of decades of Israel’s brutal apartheid and violent occupation of Palestine. We stand with the Palestinian people as they resist this colonial terror in all its forms.”
