In news that will break the hearts of thousands of fans, The Preatures have broken up after 10 years of performing together.
The beloved Sydney indie-rock band’s lead singer Isabella ‘Izzi’ Manfredi confirmed the news in an interview with triple j.
Appearing on the station’s Drive program to celebrate the release of her first solo single ‘Jealousy’, Manfredi revealed their split was “quite a long, complex story.”
Explaining that there were “essentially two reasons why [they] broke up,” Manfredi said that the band were stuck in a “really antiquated record deal that [they] couldn’t get out of.”
“It meant that we couldn’t support ourselves financially… that was a big issue and obviously with COVID that became forefront at our minds,” she said.
She continued: “At the same time, my 10-year relationship with Jack [Moffitt, Preatures guitarist and producer] was over. And if anyone’s ever gone through a break-up, it’s really hard to keep working with that person.”
“There was dynamics there that were really unhealthy, which just meant in the end for me, I had to get myself out of there. For me, the band was my family and I was so committed to it. But for my heart and my music, I had to take myself away and start again.”

Continuing on to speak directly to fans, Manfredi said: “I want [you] to know that personally I did everything I could to keep the band together [but] it wasn’t a creative choice in the end; it was a personal and financial choice and they are realities we’ve all had to face in the past 12 months.”
Following Manfredi’s interview on triple j, the band released a short statement via their social media profiles.
“After 10 years, The Preatures have disbanded… we want to thank everybody who was a part of the journey and especially you for being such a dedicated fanbase,” they wrote.
The Preatures formed back in 2010 and went on to release two studio albums, 2014’s Blue Planet Eyes and 2017’s Girlhood.
Their success led to them supporting the likes of The Rolling Stones, Foo Fighters, Garbage, The Cranberries, Pink and Harry Styles on tour.
Although the band may have called it quits, Manfredi’s solo career is just getting started, with a debut album currently in the works.
“I had never really co-written outside the four walls of The Preatures,” she told triple j on writing ‘Jealousy’.
“I’d done a few tracks with Flume and that was kind of it. It was really scary and also super-exciting. I came out of it with such a love of the craft and a lot of confidence when I came back. I loved it.”
As if that wasn’t enough, Manfredi is currently heavily pregnant with her first child with fiance, musician Rupert Parry.
