Tsk tsk. It appears that even being one of the biggest bands in the world is not enough to keep Muse from falling foul of Victoria’s smoking laws.

According to the Herald Sun, bassist Chris Wolstenholme decided to light up on stage during the band’s performance at Rod Laver Arena in Melbourne last week and he wasn’t too sneaky about it. At first it appears he tried to disguise it amidst the dry ice on stage but then just blatantly puffed away.

That’s a big no no according to the venue, which has a strict no smoking policy. According to a spokesperson for the venue “Officials spoke to the band before and after the show and we were extremely disappointed when they decided to flaunt [sic] our strict no-smoking policy.”

Now this is the funny bit … the rest of the statement said “They are known as an anti-establishment style of performance group, but it was still sad that they decided to go ahead regardless.” A rock band ‘anti-establishment’? Who woulda thunk it?
