Loveable grouch and purveyor of bat heads, Ozzy Osbourne, has been named one of the more unlikely Record Store Day Ambassadors. To be held on April 16, the day celebrates independent record stores , encouraging music fans to spend big and also enticing them with rare releases from bands specifically to aid the day. Ozzy will be filling the big boots of previous ambassadors. In a statement, Record Store Day co-founder Michael Kurtz said

“We were thrilled when the inaugural position was held in 2009 by the Eagles of Death Metal front man Jesse “Boots Electric” Hughes, and was then followed in 2010 by QOTSA/Them Crooked Vultures’ Joshua Homme. We really didn’t know who could top this trajectory of camp and circumstance and, needless to say, we were gobsmacked when Ozzy stepped up to the plate.”

Meanwhile, Ozzy himself told music fans “I now have the power to command you to attend Record Store Day, April 16th. Be there!”

After a massive schism between music retailers in Australia over the event last year we’ll be bringing you more info on events for the day in Australia closer to the date.
