Charli XCX has responded to criticism of her Glastonbury performance with a dismissive yet thoughtful series of statements on social media.
The singer performed on the Other Stage on Saturday night, with her set being broadcast live on BBC’s iPlayer in the UK.
Following the performance, viewers took to social media platforms to criticise her use of autotune and some went as far as labelling her “the worst performer” at the festival. Rather than ignoring the backlash, Charli addressed the comments directly through her social media accounts.
“Like the idea that singing with deliberate autotune makes you a fraud or that not having a traditional band suddenly means you must not be a ‘real artist’ is like, the most boring take ever. yawn sorry just fell asleep,” she wrote in one post.

The artist further elaborated on her perspective, embracing the controversy surrounding her performance. “But to be honest… i enjoy the discourse. imo the best art is divisive and confrontational and often evolves into truly interesting culture rather than being like kind of ok, easily understood and sort of forgettable.”
In a follow-up post, Charli shared a five-star review of her Glastonbury set and noted that she was “really enjoying these boomer vibe comments on my glastonbury performance. it’s super fascinating to me.”

During her headline set on the Other Stage, Charli performed several tracks from her most recent album, Brat, including “Apple”, “Von Dutch,” and “Girl, So Confusing”. The performance featured Gracie Abrams in the audience participating in the “Apple Dance”, which has become a tradition on Charli’s tour. The singer concluded her set by declaring that Brat Summer is “a forever thing.”
This Glastonbury appearance follows recent high-profile collaborations, including a surprise appearance with Dua Lipa at London’s Wembley Stadium during the Radical Optimism world tour, where they performed Charli’s hit “360”. Earlier in June, she also joined French electronic duo Air for a performance of “Cherry Blossom Girl” at the We Love Green festival in Paris.
