A BBC documentary chronicling the final years of Ozzy Osbourne‘s life was abruptly postponed just hours before its scheduled premiere on Monday evening, with the broadcaster confirming the delay came at the family’s explicit request.

Ozzy Osbourne: Coming Home was set to air on BBC Monday, August 18th, before being pulled from the schedule earlier that day. The broadcaster initially provided minimal explanation, stating only that “the film has moved in the schedules and we’ll confirm new tx [transmission] details in due course.”

The BBC later issued a follow-up statement acknowledging the family’s involvement in the decision. “Our sympathies are with the Osbourne family at this difficult time,” the broadcaster said. “We are respecting the family’s wishes to wait a bit longer before airing this very special film. The new [transmission] date will be confirmed shortly.”

The documentary represents a significant evolution from its original conception. Initially announced in 2022 as a multi-part docuseries titled Home to Roost, the project was designed to follow the Osbourne family’s long-held dream of relocating from Los Angeles back to England. However, as Osbourne’s health declined in recent years, the documentary’s focus shifted dramatically.

Coming Home has been transformed into an hour-long film described as a “moving and inspirational account of the last chapter of Ozzy’s life.” The production team secured what has been characterised as “unique and intimate access” to the entire Osbourne family throughout the filming process.

The documentary was set to include footage of Osbourne’s preparation for his farewell concert in early July, which took place just weeks before his death. This behind-the-scenes content would have provided viewers with an unprecedented glimpse into the metal icon’s final professional endeavour.

Coming Home is not the only documentary exploring Osbourne’s later years. Another film, Ozzy Osbourne: No Escape From Now, is scheduled for release in late 2025 on Paramount+. This documentary has been described as “a deeply personal portrait of Ozzy’s harsh new reality as the singer battles to take to the stage for one final performance.”
