Medium Build Announces 2027 Australian Headline Tour

Medium Build will return to Australia in January 2027 for a four-date headline tour in support of new album King of Having Fun.

The project of American singer-songwriter Nick Carpenter will begin the Australian run at Adelaide’s Lion Arts Factory on January 18th, before heading to Melbourne’s Corner Hotel on January 19th.

The tour will then continue at Brisbane’s The Triffid on January 22nd, before wrapping up at Sydney’s Metro Theatre on January 23rd.

The Australian dates form part of Medium Build’s biggest headline tour to date, which also includes an extensive run across North America, Europe and the UK.

For Carpenter, the opportunity to finally take King of Having Fun on the road has been a long time coming.

“I feel ready,” he recently told Rolling Stone AU/NZ. “I’ve heard these tunes one million times and I really made them with the intention of playing them live. So it’s like, God, just get me on the streets playing these tunes.”

Released earlier this month, King of Having Fun is Medium Build’s sixth studio album and follows his 2024 breakthrough Country. The record finds Carpenter reckoning with sobriety, success, and the sometimes significant distance between appearing functional and actually being well.

Recorded live in the studio with close friends and collaborators, the album also marks a shift away from the bedroom-built approach of Carpenter’s earlier work, pushing his mix of indie, country and lo-fi songwriting into bigger, more immediate territory.

The tour will also mark another quick return to Australia for Carpenter, who visited the country twice in 2025. He played headline dates across Australia and New Zealand and supported Role Model on a national tour before returning later that year as a special guest on Alex Warren’s Australian run, alongside intimate headline shows of his own in Melbourne and Sydney.

Australia has become something of a second home for Carpenter, whose best friend moved here in 2016 and later became a citizen.

“I personally really fucking love it,” he told Rolling Stone AU/NZ of touring the country. “It feels like going into the upside down and be like, ‘This is like us, but different and there’s no guns. That’s kind of cute and nice.’ And I always just feel safe.”

His relationship with Australia hasn’t always been straightforward. Carpenter also revealed that some of the moments that ultimately pushed him towards sobriety happened here, including writing a note to his team from an Adelaide hotel telling them, “If I don’t quit, I’m going to die.”

Rather than blaming the places attached to those memories, Carpenter said the experiences became part of a larger reckoning with how he had been living.

“I think it would be so unfair to demonise a place for how I showed up,” he said.

Now, he’ll return in a very different place personally, and with an album built to be experienced in front of a crowd.
