Public Figures are keeping their breakout year moving with the release of a fiery new single.
The Australian four-piece – who were one of the hottest acts at BIGSOUND this year – have shared new single “Push My Buttons”, which sees the band lean into a heavier, more abrasive sound while tackling frustration with repeated bad behaviour and crossed boundaries.
Written in May and recorded the following month at Melbourne’s Sundowner Studios, the track was produced by drummer Gigi Argiro, mixed by Los Angeles-based engineer Samur Khouja (Yeah Yeah Yeahs, The Strokes, Dry Cleaning) and mastered by Simon Berckelman (Courtney Barnett, Cate Le Bon).
“‘Push My Buttons’ is about reaching the end of your patience with repeated bad behaviour, such as men crossing the same boundaries again and again,” the band said. “It’s that feeling of being completely fed up with people’s shit and no longer willing to put up with it.”
The single arrives alongside a music video directed and edited by Richard Clifford, who conceptualised the clip with vocalist Evie Vlah.
“Push My Buttons” follows Public Figures’ Figure It Out! EP, released in February. Since then, Vlah, Argiro, Lakota Vella and Mary-Lou Hylands have performed at Golden Plains Festival and completed a sold-out national tour. They also took over BIGSOUND in Brisbane earlier this month, emerging as one of the showcase’s buzziest acts.
The band will now return to the road for shows at The Tote in Melbourne on November 13th, followed by Season Three in Brisbane on November 26th and The Chippo in Sydney on December 4th. See here for details.
They are also set to appear at Chopped Festival in Victoria this weekend before joining King Gizzard & The Lizard Wizard’s sold-out Croxton Block Party in October. Further dates include shows supporting Belair Lip Bombs in Melbourne, Brisbane and Sydney, before Public Figures support The Saints at Melbourne’s Croxton in February 2027.
