Pearl Jam front man Eddie Vedder, currently playing solo gigs in Australia this week, is set to release an album full of … errr, ukulele numbers.  Aptly entitled Ukelele Songs, Vedder’s latest magnumopus is due for release on 30 May and features contributions from Cat Power – AKA Chan Marshall – and Glen Hansard of The Frames, who is also known for his acting in the films Once and The Commitments.

This is only Vedder’s second release, and makes a marked departure from his first solo effort in 2007 which soundtracked the film Into The Wild, directed by Sean Penn. Branching out after nine albums with Pearl Jam, Vedder’s album contains 12 originals as well as covers of the Everly Brothers’ ‘Sleepless Nights’, the Mamas and the Papas’ ‘Dream a Little Dream’, uke and Pearl Jam’s very own ‘Can’t Keep’.
