Tone Deaf is proudly co-presenting Cherry Rock 011, featuring Jesse ‘The Devil’ Hughes, a reformed Died Pretty and Barrence Whitfield & The Savages. It also features appearances from some of Australia’s greatest rock n’ roll bands, so we thought we’d catch up with them and find out what makes Cherry Bar, AC/DC Lane and Melbourne so special to them.
Can you remember the first time you went to Cherry Bar? What did you like so much about it?
First time I went was after The Darkness played their first Melbourne club show. It was an amazing night – I ended up rolling into bed at 5.30am and I have no memory other than the door man saying have a great night hahhahah!
What’s the one song you hear at Cherry that makes you want to get up on stage and bust out the rock star moves?
‘Speed King’ – Deep Purple
Growing up, what bands turned you in to the rock pigs you now are?
Deep Purple, Led Zeppelin, AC/DC.
We encourage responsible drinking, so if the owners shout you just the one drink – what would it be?
Sadly, Southern and Lemonade or as they say in the States … Soco and 7 up.
If you were given a 20 minute DJ set at Cherry, what songs would you play to keep the crowd rocking?
Deep Purple – Speed King
Led Zeppelin – ‘Whole Lotta Love’
The Cult – ‘Lil Devil’
Audioslave – ‘Cochise’
AC/DC – ‘For Those About To Rock (We Salute You)’
We don’t promise you’ll get it all on the day at Cherry Rock 011, but what’s on your ideal rider?
The Monday Herald Sun opened on the sports pages … One bottle of White Sambuca .. A large screen Apple Mac opened on Skype so I can talk to my Mum … Two large white Kit Kats … a book of jokes with no punch lines … Venom Alex Pete and Riki … A lot of beer for our guests and 6 cans of UDL vodka and passionfruit.
Everyone’s had a pretty wild night out at Cherry over the years. What happened on your wildest night – that we can print?
Nothing – I have no idea what went on … There was another time I was suffering from food poisoning from a reputable haunt … I spent a lot of time in the toilet for all the wrong reason. Ooh what I could have done can’t be printed … Actually what I did can’t be printed.
Electric Mary hit the stage at Cherry Rock011 in AC/DC Lane Melbourne on Sunday 01 May. The last remaining tickets are available from www.oztix.com.au
