The world of celebrities has gone in to overdrive paying tribute to Amy Winehouse following her tragic death from a drug overdose at her London home on Saturday. Ozzy Osbourne’s daughter Kelly said on Twitter “i cant even breath right now im crying so hard i just lost 1 of my best friends. i love you forever Amy & will never forget the real you!” In the meantime actress Demi Moore said on Twitter “Truly sad news about Amy Winehouse. My heart goes out to her family. May her troubled soul find peace.”
The Rolling Stones’ guitarist Ronnie Wood, who has similarly struggled with booze and drug problems declared that he would be dedicating his Saturday night radio show to her, saying “It’s a very sad loss of a very good friend I spent many great times with.” Hip hop producer Saleem Rahmi, who worked with Winehouse said on Twitter “Very Very Sad Day. Just lost a Great Friend and a Sister.” He continued: “RIP my baby SiS Cherry Winehouse. Love ya always.
Lounge crooner Tony Bennett who had recently recorded with her said “Amy Winehouse was an artist of immense proportions and I am deeply saddened to learn of her tragic passing. She was an extraordinary musician with a rare intuition as a vocalist and I am truly devastated that her exceptional talent has come to such an early end. She was a lovely and intelligent person and when we recorded together she gave a soulful and extraordinary performance. I was honoured to have the opportunity to sing with her. It had been my sincere hope that she would be able to overcome the issues she was battling and I send my deepest sympathy to her father Mitchell, her entire family and all of those who loved her.”
The Dap Kings – Sharon Jones’ backing band – who played on her breakthrough record Back To Black said “We are very sad to have lost Amy Winehouse today. She was one of a kind and we were fortunate to have had the chance to make music with her. She was always gracious and a pleasure to work with in the studio and on the road. She brought a lot of people joy with her voice and her irreverent personality. It is a tragedy that she was taken from us so soon when she had much more music to give.”
Winehouse is survived by her father, mother and older brother.
