Now this is a tour to make hardcore Galaxie 500 fans wet their pants in anticipation! Following the re-release of Galaxie 500’s three classic albums on Domino Records last year, their former frontman and guitarist, Dean Wareham, is set to head down under playing a set of all-Galaxie 500 material with a three-piece band featuring his wife Britta Phillips (Luna, Belltower) on bass and drummer Anthony Lamarca.
Born in Wellington, New Zealand in 1963, Wareham lived in Wellington and Sydney, before moving to New York City in 1977. Galaxie 500, formed in Boston in 1986 and recorded three seminal studio albums — Today, On Fire and This Is Our Music — for Rough Tradebefore going splitsville in 1991. The druggy, woozy rush of their music inspired artists from Ride to the Brian Jonestown Massacre to Swervedriver, and now Dean Wareham and his three piece band are bringing the music of Galaxie 500 to Australia performing shows in Sydney and Melbourne before heading over the Tasman to paly gigs in his homeland of New Zealand.
Joining Dean Wareham for the Australian shows are fellow kaleidoscopic astral-planers, Sand Pebbles, who have just released a new album, Dark Magic, which features guest spots from Dean Wareham and Britt Phillips as well as Death in Vegas’ Tim Holmes. Tickets for both Australian shows go on-sale Friday 26th August.
