Cub Sport called out their high school on Twitter this morning, following a newspaper article detailing the band’s career. The band tweeted that their school was a “literal homophobic hellscape” during their time there.
Today’s issue of The Courier Mail features a write-up on the Brisbane-based band, focusing on their recent collaboration with Savage Garden’s Darren Hayes.
For Cub Sport’s Tim Nelson, who is married to bandmate Sam Netterfield, the chance to collaborate with Hayes was “incredibly surreal”.
The article goes on to mention that Nelson and Netterfield attended Brisbane’s Northside Christian College for secondary school. The pair met in Year 8, but became friends later in their schooling.
The article’s mention of NCC prompted the band to call out the alleged culture of homophobia they experienced during their time there.
“Since (The Courier Mail) decided to shout out the school we went to I’d just like to specify that Northside Christian College is a literal homophobic hellscape,” the band wrote on Twitter this morning.
And since they decided to shout out the school we went to I’d just like to specify that Northside Christian College is a literal homophobic hellscape 😀😀😀😀
