It’s official, Aaliyah’s estate is now in control of her YouTube channel.

The last time we reported on Aaliyah was last year, when R. Kelly was charged with bribing a judge for a fake ID so he could marry Aaliyah.

The Times reported that federal prosecutors in Brooklyn had accused Kelly of bribing an Illinois government employee on August 30th, 1994 to obtain a fake ID for Aaliyah.

And that was just one of the many charges against Kelly that year.

But moving forward, things aren’t about him anymore. We’re about celebrating Aaliyah’s legacy that she left behind, be that in both the realms of fashion and obviously in music.

And more on that, the official Aaliyah Instagram account just announced something huge. They announced that the estate is now in control of the Aaliyah YouTube account.

“Thank you for all of your love and support. We are proud to announce that the Estate is now in control of the “Aaliyah” YouTube account. 2021 will the year of Aaliyah! See you all in the new year!”

The YouTube news follows on from an earlier announcement this year, regarding the fact that communication regarding Aaliyah’s music catalogue was open.

The official Aaliyah Instagram account shared, “We are excited to announce that communication has commenced between the estate and various record labels about the status of Aaliyah’s music catalogue, as well as its availability on streaming platforms in the near future. Thank you for your continued love and support. More updated to come!”

As reported by Complex, the only Aaliyah album available to stream on Spotify right now is Age Ain’t Nothing But a Number.

In 2016, a Complex writer reported on the absence of Aaliyah’s music. Saying, “The situation puts her entire musical legacy at risk of fading from memory. Year by year, streaming accounts for a greater portion of an artist’s visibility and reverence among the next generation of listeners.”

Here’s hoping her discography becomes more readily available to all in the near future.
