Late rock and roll icon and Motörhead founder Lemmy Kilmister has praised Aussie rockers AC/DC in a never-before-heard interview from 2015.
In the newly-released interview for the premiere of AC/DC Beyond the Thunder‘s second season, Lemmy heaped praise upon the group, gave a few anecdotes and named “quintessential” tracks by the music legends.
“There’s so many of them it’s impossible,” Lemmy began when asked to pick his top tune. “‘Can I Sit Next To You Girl’, ‘It’s a Long Way to the Top‘ is one of my favourites. ‘TNT’, ‘Whole Lotta Rosie’ – the live version is fantastic.”
Kilmister – who passed away in December 2015 at the age of 70 – then compared the Aussies musical style to Motörhead, calling the bands “birds of a feather”.
“AC/DC have crossed the line of being a rock’n’roll band,” he said in the podcast. “They’re an international event. They don’t tour as much as [Motörhead], we’re sluts – we play all the time! Whereas you have to wait for AC/DC” he laughed.
“AC/DC are a rock and roll band; they’re like us. We don’t play metal. AC/DC don’t play metal. We’re like birds of a feather.”
Asked if he ever had a chance to meet the late frontman Bon Scott, Lemmy said that while he and the former AC/DC rocker never had a “decent conversation,” he had several memories about Scott’s iconic performances – with Lemmy adding that he once brought a date backstage to their show “to impress her”.

“We did about three shows supporting them – that was in the early days of Motörhead, and [Bon Scott] just looked it knackered all the time because he would give it everything in the show.”
Lemmy continued, “I saw them a couple of times in London – I took a chick I was dating up there to impress her, you know, go backstage at AC/DC,” he explained. “And I would see [Bon Scott] come off stage between songs and fall down, and get up and get pushed back on. He would give it his all.”
He added, “That’s how you should do it – it’s a workout”.
