Sydney punk rockers Bare Bones are about to release their latest EP. Titled Cut Throat Living it’s the abrasive and hook laced follow up to the band’s 2013 debut EP Villains.

Forming in Sydney late 2012, Bare Bones were quick to establish themselves on the Australian hardcore and punk scenes by releasing the killer EP Villains, and supporting acts such as Senses Fail (US), For Today (US), Northlane, and House Vs Hurricane.

Coming in at just under the 15 minute mark, Cut Throat Living pulls no punches from start to finish, and sees the band continue to blur the line between Hardcore, Punk, Metal and Rock n Roll. Mixed and recorded by Chris Blancato from BearClaw studios and mastered by Alan Douches. While writing Cut Throat Living the band took on board two new members – James Clarke (Bass) and Chris Breedon (Guitar) who have helped to shape and compliment the Bare Bones sound.

To celebrate the release of Cut Throat Living, the band have given us a track by track run down on the brutal EP, check it out below, and if you like what you hear- be sure to catch them on the road as they tour nationally in September.

Johnny In The Low Ground

Cut Throat Living kicks off with the instrumental track ‘Johnny in the Low Ground’. The dark fuzz driven bass that cuts through the feedback clatter and the ominous guitar riffs establish the tone and feel for what is to come on the EP.

Pipeline Fever

As the instrumental opening track winds down, Pipeline Fever comes out swinging. This track has some of the heaviest riffs for a Bare Bones track to date, and showcases a red hot solo that jumps from death metal to glam from the newest addition to the band, second guitarist Chris Breedon.

Road Worrier

Road Worrier is the first single to be taken from the EP. The title of the song was influenced from the episode of MTV’s Daria of the same name, and lyrically deals with the crippling effects of anxiety. Instrumentally this track pounds it out, with lead guitar work from both James and Chris, and unrelenting rhythm from James (bass) and Chris (drums).

Cut Throat Lives

Cut Throat Lives is a lesson in cardio for our drummer Chris; it has him punishing his drums for the full 2:55 length of the track. Vocalist Tom employs a chorus hook that will be stuck in your head for days, a writing technique often forgotten in the hardcore scene. Guitar work on Cut Throat Lives carries large influence from bands like Turbonegro and Cancer Bats, employing burning lead work backed by staunch rhythm.

Humble Wasteland

As a band we wanted to write a strong head banger of a tune that would carry over into a live setting, and believe we have achieved this with Humble Wasteland. Keeping riffs simple but rhythm strong it has a very Pantera-esque vibe to it, mandatory gang vocals and a driving drum beat that would sure to have Vinnie Paul banging his head.

Hell Painted Gold

Rounding out Cut Throat Living is Hell Painted Gold, a track that carries over a strong feel from our debut EP ‘Villains’ with its stabbing guitar sections and stop/start rhythms. We chose to end this track, and the EP with something we have not done before and that is with a hardcore style breakdown, however unlike many typical breakdowns we decided to run a really dirty Zakk Wylde inspired, Wah infused lead run over the top, complete with our own tribute to the Late Dimebag Darrell, a guitar dive-bomb.
