The first ever van owned by rock monoliths Aerosmith has been discovered by Mike Wolfe and Frank Fritz, the hosts of American Pickers.

Loudwire reports that the 1964 International Harvester Metro was found abandoned and dilapidated in the woods near Chesterfield in Hampshire County, Massachusetts — approximately 180 kilometres away from the band’s hometown, Boston.

It was confirmed by Aerosmith’s guitarist Joe Perry and former guitarist Ray Tabano that the van is authentic. Tabano told Wolfe “I’m afraid to say how long it is, but it’s been like 40 years since we’ve been in this thing. We’d drive from Boston up to New Hampshire for $125. Then after the gas, the tolls, and the food and back, we’d all make like $3 apiece. It just reminded me of the humble beginnings and I look at where [the band has] gone today it’s just amazing”

Wolfe bought the fan off the owner of the property on which it was found for $25,000 — referring to it as “a piece of American rock and roll history”.

It remains a mystery as to how the van ended up abandoned in the forest. The properties owner said that the vehicle was there when he bought the land from somebody who may have been connected with Aerosmith.
