“There’s a baby boomer across the street / And it won’t stop staring at me”.

With a lyric like that, it was clear from the outset that Violent Soho’s fifth album was going to be well received.

Recorded by Australian producer Greg Wales (You Am I, Sandpit, Youth Group), Everything Is A-OK has been one of the most highly anticipated Australian releases in recent memory.

Teased late last year with the two new tracks ‘A-OK’ and ‘Vacation Forever’, followed by a cryptic poster campaign and three intimate live shows on the East Coast (remember live shows?), Violent Soho fans’ pleas for a record was at fever pitch when the album dropped last week.

Everything Is A-OK was made triple j feature album and the band even delivered a self-isolation reprieve on Friday when at 4.20pm (naturally), the four band members live-streamed the LP on Facebook and YouTube  and took questions from fans throughout.

Luke Boerdam’s quick witted, iconic drawl is in full flight on Everything Is A-OK, and thanks to the band’s slacker rock riffs and production that places the listener front-and-centre of a live show, Violent Soho have brought the gig to our living rooms and made us forget about the impending doom around us for 34 glorious minutes.

Stream the record in full below, then check out why the staff here at Tone Deaf love it so much.

Four years on from their chart-topping WACO, Violent Soho return with a blistering collection of tracks that showcase why they’re one of Australia’s most revered and beloved rock outfits.

Never has an album felt more relevant. Everything is A-OK unrelentingly strives for positivity in the age of uncertainty. It’s the “fuck it” tonic we all need.
