Despite Wade Macneil’s induction into UK hardcore act Gallows and Dallas Green’s swelling success with his solo project City and Colour, the two have found the time to reunite with their old band-mates of Alexisonfire for a new EP, to be released on the 4th of December.

The 6-track EP, appropriately titled Death Letter, is the band’s first output since 2010’s Dog’s Blood and its release will coincide with the band’s much hyped farewell tour, which sees the band coming to Australian shores for strictly limited shows at Sydney’s Hordern Pavillion and Melbourne’s Festival Hall, on the 11th and 12th of December respectively.

The EP is a eulogy to the legacy the Canadian post-hardcore outfit has left behind, as they celebrate their 10th anniversary as a band and their dissolution concurrently. The EP will feature renditions of cuts from Alexisonfire’s back catalogue, reworked from their trademark post-hardcore style into acoustic and noise-rock tracks. Perhaps not essential for the casual listener, but for hardcore fans of the band these tracks promise a fresh take on Alexisonfire classics.

Released through Dine Alone Records, the label underscores the fact that they and Alexisonfire have recently acquired full ownership of the band’s catalogue and suggest plans to take advantage of this fact, promising to “issue more fun and creative releases in the coming months.”

This rare treat is a bittersweet celebration for fans as the members of Alexisonfire all part ways to focus on other projects. Playing a final string of shows worldwide throughout December – their first since 2010 – the band wishes to pay tribute to the fans that saw their success skyrocket with their 2002 self-titled debut LP.

Recently speaking to Tone Deaf, founding member, guitarist, and co-vocalist Macneil said, “I think the final shows are going to be like something amazing and it’s going to be something really positive for the five of us,” in reference to their upcoming tour, adding “whereas a year ago it would have been something that was really negative. But everyone’s sort of gone their separate ways and it’s really happy.”
