Earlier this week we brought you the news that All That Remains’ late guitarist Oliver Herbert’s death was a result of drowning.
Now, police are investigating his death as suspicious, according to a report by the Hartford Courant.
Mr Herbert’s body was found in a pond behind his Stafford Springs home last month, but police have ruled his cause of death “undetermined” as opposed to drowning.
Sources say that police have been constructing a timeline of Mr Herbert’s last 24 hours, including examining medical records and speaking to people who may have been in contact with him before he died.
His death last month was a major shock for the metal community at large, with friends close to Mr Herbert questioning the apparent unresolved factors surrounding the events that led to the tragedy.
On a Facebook page started by friends called “Justice for Oli Herbert”, admins have shared numerous articles about the incident, including calls by the Springfield police seeking more information surrounding the circumstances.
In a statement last week, Oli’s wife Elizabeth said of the events leading to the incident that “Oli was apparently self-treating for manic-depression that has run in his family for several generations…”
“Oli kept wanting to go outside that night before he disappeared and he kept walking towards the pond, which is a pitch black part of our property as well as very slippery.”
She reiterated that the case was “absolutely not” closed and that the prime aim of the investigation was to “find out where he got the meds”.
Speaking to the 101 WRIF Radio Station last week, All That Remains frontman Phil Labonte revealed that the band were “shocked, saddened and confused” by the events.
“He would go hang out with people and stuff, but he didn’t really do a lot of drinking. … He didn’t do drugs, he didn’t really drink a lot” said Labonte, adding that “he would smoke pot once in a while, but that was the extent of it”.
