All That Remains have opened up about the future of the band, explaining there is still plenty of uncertainty following the passing of guitarist Oli Herbert.
Back in October, the world of heavy metal was shocked to learn of the death of All That Remains guitarist Oli Herbert. A founding member of the group, Herbert passed away due to what described as an “accident which occurred on the property of his home.”
Weeks later, it was revealed by Herbert’s wife Beth that his passing had occurred due to drowning, while depressants and a sleep aid were also found in his system.
Unfortunately, fans soon began to target Beth, stating they didn’t believe the story behind the guitarist’s passing, with police later stating they were treating his death as suspicious.
Throughout this whole ordeal, All That Remains had chosen to continue performing live, with Jason Richardson of Chelsea Grin and Born Of Osiris filling in during their recent tour dates.

Now, vocalist Phil Labonte has spoken to Decibel to explain how the group are currently looking forward to the future, and how they snared Jason Richardson to serve as a fill-in guitarist.
“We had toured with Born of Osiris when Jason was in that band and him and Oli had hit it off and become buddies,” Labonte explained. “I’m not sure exactly how much they stayed in contact, but I knew that they would hang out and talk guitar and listen to music and stuff.”
“When Oli passed away, Jason did a cover of him playing ‘Chiron’ and then Aaron [Patrick], our bass player, reached out to Jason and said ‘Hey, you sounded really good. Would you be interested in filling in if we went and needed you to come aboard?'”
“He was like ‘Yeah, dude, I’d love to’ and he did an amazing job,” Labonte continued. “He came in and nailed everything and really kind of saved our ass. He made it easier on us when it comes to the grieving side of it.”

While Phil Labonte noted he doesn’t “know how to process” the concept of Oli Herbert not performing with the group, he explains that it’s not set in stone whether Jason Richardson will become a full-time member.
“It was one tour and we don’t have someone that’s actually ‘the guy’ yet,” Labonte explained. “We haven’t discussed whether Jason wants to join the band full time, we haven’t discussed whether or not we want to have Jason join the band. We’re not even at that point yet, so I don’t know.”
“The band’s gonna stay together, the band’s gonna keep going, and as for anything else, I guess I can’t really… I can’t shed any more light on that situation,” he concluded. “We know we’re gonna keep going, but I don’t know what that means.”
At this stage, the future lineup of All That Remains is anyone’s guess, but we can at least take solace knowing that there is indeed plenty more to come from the iconic metal act.
