As you know by now, the annual APRA Awards went down in Sydney last night. A string of Australia’s best Aussie musos went home with new accolades to add to their resumes, including Tame Impala and Courtney Barnett.

Tame Impala picked up the Song of The Year award for ‘Let It Happen’ off of last year’s Currents, whilst Barnett was awarded the much-coveted title of Australian Songwriter of the Year, halting Sia’s three-year streak.

The evening also saw quite a few stellar performances take place on stage. As has become APRA tradition, the ceremony tasks Aussie bands and artists with covering songs by their fellow Aussies and this year had some corkers.

San Cisco turned Courtney Barnett’s ‘Pedestrian At Best’ into a groovy ’70s power pop tune, whilst the inimitable pipes of Montaigne teamed up with Gang of Youths to provide a haunting rendition of Jarryd James’ ‘Do You Remember’.

Meanwhile, The Living End covered Cold Chisel’s pub rock classic ‘Khe Sahn’, Melbourne’s The Delta Riggs dropped a rendition of Tame Impala’s ‘Let It Happen’, Guy Sebastian covered C.W. Stoneking, and D.I.G. covered Birds of Tokyo with help from Ngaiire & Ruel.

You can check out all the performances from the night over on the Moshcam website. What do you reckon? Are any of them better than the originals or is the genuine article simply untouchable?
