US musician Amanda Palmer has taken to social media overnight, informing her supporters that she and husband Neil Gaiman have reportedly split while in quarantine.

For the last two months, Amanda Palmer has providing fans with a document of life in quarantine in New Zealand, where she had been living with four-year-old son Ash, and husband, famed author Neil Gaiman.

Having been locked down in northern New Zealand since restrictions took place during the final leg of her tour down under, Palmer and Gaiman had been updating fans in regards to their movements, and what life has been like for their family during this time.

Overnight though, Palmer addressed questions relating to Gaiman’s absence of late, taking to social media to reveal that he had in fact moved back to the UK.

“To everyone sending me messages of support, rage & condolences – thank you,” she wrote on Twitter. “I’ve got the kid full time in lockdown & wish I could spend time answering.

“Neil moved to the UK, my heart has been broken, and I am really struggling. your love & support means a lot to me. Thank you.”

Urging her fans to visit her Patron page, Palmer went into slightly more detail, explaining that she is set to remain in New Zealand for “the foreseeable future”, and explaining that the details of their apparent split will be kept private at the current time.

“So you all know: this did not happen because of COVID or lockdown, though the timing is comically bad; other things came to light after we got here to New Zealand,” she explained.

“In fairness to all, and to keep little Ash (who will not always be little) protected, the details aren’t for the public.”

“My commitment to radical compassion has not shifted. I am trying. I have a great deal of compassion for Neil. I always have and always will.”

In his own post to Twitter, Gaiman addressed the situation, before requesting privacy during this difficult time.

“I see Amanda Palmer has told people that we (like much of the world) are going through rocky times right now,” he explained. “It is true, we are.

“It’s really hard, and I’d like to request privacy (as I’m not going to be talking about it publicly) and kindness, for us and for Ash.”

Palmer and Gaiman wrapped up their recent visit to Australia in early March, appearing at Melbourne’s Forum Theatre following the release of Palmer’s Forty Five Degrees: Bushfire Charity Flash Record.
