Amy Winehouse is dead. The British soul superstar was found in her London flat yesterday afternoon having suffered a suspected drug overdose. She was just 27. She’s gone and joined – as Kurt Cobain’s Mum said – ‘the stupid club’.Winehouse rose to fame on the back of her second album Back To Black, and although she struggled with drug and booze addiction she was an immense talent, with a voice that defined the decade.
According to London’s Metropolitan Police “We were called by London Ambulance Service to an address in Camden Square shortly before 16.05hrs following reports of a woman found deceased. On arrival officers found the body of a 27-year-old female who was pronounced dead at the scene.” Tributes have poured in for the singer whose debut album Frank in 2006 ushered her in to the spotlight, and then saw her career head in to the stratosphere with her 2008 follow up, Back To Black. Producer Mark Ronson, who worked with her frequently in the studio said “She was my musical soulmate and like a sister to me. This is one of the saddest days of my life.” Fans have begun gathering at her home in Camden Square in London’s inner north, placing flowers, teddy bears and lit candles in tribute.
