The Amy Winehouse Foundation have teamed up with the Recording Academy’s charity, Musicares, to collaborate on an NFT for a very good cause.
As reported by Variety, the NFT has been created based on a photograph by Charles Moriarty, alongside visual artist Mark Palkoski and is also a part of the Back to Amy exhibit and livestream, an event which commemorates ten years since Winehouse passed away.
Since its inception, the Winehouse Foundation has worked to inspire children and young people to focus and build on their self esteem and resilience.
Laura Segura, executive director of MusiCares issued a statement saying, “Mental Health has, unfortunately, claimed the lives of too many and in recent years has become more rampant across the industry. Here at MusiCares, we’ve seen time and time again how struggles with mental health can negatively impact someone’s life. That is why we’re proud to collaborate with the Amy Winehouse Foundation to not only honor Amy and her incredible life and career but also help those who are suffering from this devastating disease.”
Elsewhere in NFT news, famous images from the final photoshoot of Kurt Cobain, titled ‘The Last Sessions’, shot by photographer Jesse Frohman have been sold as an NFT.The series was created just months before Cobain’s death in 1994, leaving an everlasting mark on the world, in particular the world of rock, with the series featuring portraits which captured the essence of Cobain.
Frohman said, “The Last Session NFT collection includes images, polaroids, and contact sheets with Frohman’s original markups, some of which have never before been seen. The landmark NFT release offers those who celebrate Kurt’s legacy a chance to share ownership of a moment that is etched deeply upon the soul of music and culture.”
As per Variety, the Winehouse NFT to be auctioned off will have all proceeds directed to support musicians struggling with mental health, addiction and substance abuse.
