Despite rumours to the contrary, Andre 3000 has just delivered some bad news for fans of funk and hip hop duo Outkast – there are no plans at this point to ever record another Outkast album.

The duo went on indefinite hiatus back in 2006 after releasing six studio albums and selling an estimated 23 million records in the United States alone.

Since then both Andre 3000 and his former bandmate Big Boi have been busy pursuing solo careers and collaborative work. Andre 3000 just recently teamed up with James Murphy from LCD Soundsystem and Gorillaz to release the track ‘DoYaThing’.

Rumours of a reunion for the duo have persisted however and back in 2009 Big Boi told Billboard Magazine that he expected a new Outkast album to come out after he and Andre 3000 finished their latest solo records.

“This is all in the next year or so,” he told the magazine. “Starting with my album coming at the top of the year, Andre 3000 right after me… and when the solo albums come out, depending on how the fans support them, then we’re gonna give them the Outkast album.”

It’s been some time now since Big Boi’s comments and speaking last week to GQ Magazine, Andre has finally decided to put fans out of their misery by throwing cold water on the idea.

“There’s been a lot of talk on the Internet about an OutKast album,” he said. “And I have to say that as of now, there are no plans for another OutKast album.”

“There’s a lot of music on the horizon,” he continued. “I’ve been living off the excitement of new artists. I’ve been privileged to have these new artists kind of reach out and grab back and say, ‘Hey, Andre, we want you on this song’.”

“So I’ve been taking those calls and, for the last two years, I’ve been doing collaborations. These new artists have kind of been keeping me alive. I’ve just really been feeding off of that and this year I think I’m planning to do a solo project.”

“I don’t know when it will come out, but hopefully it’ll come out this year. As far as OutKast, I really don’t know if or when that will happen.”

Sorry Outkast fans, looks like this rumour is totally debunked.
