If it’s anywhere these guys are going, it’s up. The quintet have played in front of massive crowds, including 2009’s Adelaide Fringe opening festival playing with big name Aussie electronica band Art Vs. Science and the Clipsal 500, opening for acts such as Birds of Tokyo and Dead Letter Circus. The Killgirls are renowned for getting any venue up and moving with their fast electro rock without fail, and now with their second release at their disposal, their shows are just going to become wilder and wilder.
Their latest five tracker, Animal, starts off with a simple but solid track titled “Flint and the Steel”. The track eases the listeners into the album’s danceable vibe which can be illustrated by high energy songs such as “What I Need” which features a dubstep breakdown of sorts, and the title track “Animal” which has an addictive synth riff flowing throughout the song.
Although the release is, in its entirety, sound and enjoyable, there are a few minor weaknesses. The album does grow to be somewhat repetitive before you reach the final track. The songs also seem to follow a tame arrangement – the vocal and bassline combination in their verses grow weak to the ears throughout the album. Granted, this album is all about how it feels, not sounds, so the aforementioned minor flaws are insignificant if you’re just playing this five tracker to get your body moving.
All in all, it’s become obvious to anyone who follows this band that that they what they’re doing in terms of creating and playing danceable tracks. If their future releases are on the same level as this one, then their fans won’t be disappointed.
