Ahead of the complete bill dropping later this month, the Soundwave 2015 lineup drip-feed continues.
Yesterday, Japanese metal act Coldrain became the first band officially unveiled for next year’s new two-day edition of the hard and heavy festival, today marks the addition of a second.
New York City pop-punk outfit Patent Pending were welcomed to the Soundwave 2015 lineup overnight. The good-humoured Long Island five-piece will be heading Down Under this February and March off the back of their 12th(!) official release, 2013’s Brighter.
Pomoter AJ Maddah was originally scouting Patent Pending for the Warped Tour’s return to Australia, but given that the festival won’t be returning this year, the Soundwave boss moved them onto the lineup of his flagship event.
Patent Pending and Coldrain will be joined by three more bands this week, as a new Soundwave 2015 act is revealed each day, but don’t hold your breath for any of the “four headiners” to be among them.
This week’s trickle of announcements is about “about introducing bands that have never toured Australia before;” or as Maddah told one critic on twitter, “we are not really announcing the lineup. Just giving 5 new bands a moment in the spotlight.”
The full Soundwave 2015 lineup will feature around 90 bands, with Maddah already confirming a few artists that will show up on the announcement: namely Melbourne’s hardcore heroes Confession and prog metal crowdfunding record-holders: Ne Obliviscaris.

Other bands rumoured for the Soundwave 2015 lineup include agit-rockers Rise Against strongly rumoured to be on the top of the bill, metal heroes Fear Factory, Slipknot, and two bands that pulled out of Soundwave this year – Stone Temple Pilots and Newsted.
Other lineup whispers have namechecked Lamb Of God, Social Distortion, Against Me!, Opeth, Papa Roach, Marilyn Manson, and Anvil. More ‘maybes’ according to Maddah’s twitter, include Melvins, Dream Theater,Dragonforce, Flogging Molly, The Pretty Reckless, Asking Alexandria, Motionless In White, Bayside, Four Year Strong, Yellowcard, New Found Glory, Machine Head and Chimaira, Royal Blood and DZ Deathrays.
All will be revealed in two lineup announcements later this month. First, in a single list with all bands to coincide with the sale of weekend tickets, then a second announcement splitting bands by day as single day tickets going on sale – as Maddahexplained of the new expanded format (inspired by Stereosonic).
“Putting the line-up across 2 days enables us to minimise clashes; give bands longer sets, better staging, production & infrastructure,” says the promoter. “In recent years we have lost great bands over too many bands wanting to play after dark … This new set-up also gives us twice the dark!”
