Anthony Albanese might easily be one of the coolest politicians that Australia has ever seen. Between his day job as the Federal Member for Grayndler, spending his free time rocking the decks as DJ Albo, and serving as an ambassador for Record Store Day, he’s truly turned around the idea of politicians being nothing more than boring old suits. But right now, it looks like he might have lost some of his indie credibility with some recent comments regarding Client Liaison’s recent Splendour performance.

Taking advantage of their place on the Splendour In The Grass lineup this weekend, Melbourne’s synth-pop legends Client Liaison decided to bring out the big guns, and enlist the help of legendary Aussie pop singer Tina Arena. Bringing out Tina Arena to perform her track ‘Sorrento Moon’ has since been considered a highlight of the festival by many punters, by Anthony Albanese didn’t seem too keen on it.

Taking to Twitter, Albanese shared a photo of their performance, with a caption that read “The moment when @clientliaison jumped the shark by having @tinaarena join them for @SITG on the main stage.”

Considering Client Liaison’s current position as one of the most beloved live acts in the country, some folks might disagree. In fact, one of Albanese’s followers question his assessment of the performance. “Really Albo? I think it was pretty awesome,” wrote Brad Ward on Twitter, leading Albanese to respond with a confusing “Don’t disagree – #justsaying it was out there.”

This leads us to question whether Albanese may have back-pedalled on his assessment of the performance, or if he actually understands what ‘jumped the shark’ means. For clarity, ‘jumping the shark’ refers to a point in which something begins to diminish in quality, named so for that ridiculous episode of Happy Days in which Fonzie jumped a shark.

Considering the fact that Client Liaison’s set was incredibly well-received by many, and that the group are getting ready to head out on an Aussie tour before their first world tour later this year, we’re really doubting their quality is beginning to diminish any time soon. Maybe Albo just chose the wrong phrasing for his assessment?
