The 2010 ARIA Awards Nominations were announced at a ceremony in Sydney yesterday arvo and suffice to say, the list is pretty predictable. If you are into inoffensive pop and rock that sounds perfect in the background at a dinner party, then overall ARIA has just the aural recipe for you.

In the Album of the Year category, the omnipresent Megan Washington will duke it out with Tame Impala, while Angus & Julia Stone and Birds of Tokyo will ask Triple J listeners – how much do you love us baby? Single of the Year adds the Tempter Trap to pretty much the same list of nominees. Best female artist throws up few surprises, with Clare Bowditch, Lisa Mitchell, Sia and hello again, Megan Washington up there. Best male artist gets some cred with Dan Kelly and Dan Sultan up against the white bread major label pop of Guy Sebastian. Powderfinger refuse to retire gracefully with a nomination for Best Group, while many of the best ‘indie’ release nominations wouldn’t be there without Richard Kingsmill anointing them for Triple J high rotation. We can all look forward to another cringe-worthy ceremony on November 7th where all Sydney’s supplies of Bolivian marching powder will all suddenly end up in the one general area.
