Whoever’s in charge of the marketing for UNFD-signed band In Hearts Wake deserves a medal.
Following on from the Byron Bay hardcore five-piece pulling a hysterical hip-hop shaped prank on their fans, the push towards their second studio album Earthwalker continues with the release of a videogame that posits the Tony Abbott administration as the baddie.
As part of the band’s partnership with Carbon Neutral, to fit the theme of their eco-conscious new LP, In Hearts Wake have released Earth Invaders, a free web browser-based computer game to promote their new album release and doubly damn the Government’s current environmental policies, as TheMusic reports.
To the brutal soundtrack of new single ‘Divine’, Earth Invaders players choose one of the band’s five members to become an acorn-lobbing squirrel in order “to protect the trees from Tony Abbott’s Bulldozers.”
Though it’s basically a graphical re-make of classic 70s arcade title Space Invaders, there are incentives for fans who take on the game’s environmental message. Fans who reach 80,000 points for busting Abbott’s dozer army get access to unreleased track, ‘Healer’, while the top scoring players go into the chance to win a test pressing of Earthwalker and a $200 In Hearts Wake prize pack (full details here).
In Hearts Wake have already demonstrated their collective greenthumbs in working with Carbon Neutral to “counteract the effect global warming is having on Australia’s natural flora and fauna” by offering the planting of a bio-diverse tree for each copy of Earthwalker pre-ordered through UNFD’s 24 Hundred online store, “in the hope of restoring and preserving the natural beauty of our environment,” say the band.
The hardcore quintet’s new album, out 2nd May, follows on from 2012 debut LP Divination and last year’s ’Skydancer’ single, which was released to raise money for Indigenous charity organisations in another effort to give back to the community.

In Hearts Wake are also hitting the road next month to help launch Earthwalker, where some fans are hoping they’ll premiere their April Fools prank track ‘Brown Rice, And Salad’; an Aussie hip hop ode to green complete guest verses from Troy Brady and Dan Brown of The Amity Affliction.
