We all remember when Stereosonic music festival announced that they may knock people back for how they dress to curb violence, and we’re all well aware of Meredith/Golden Plains’ strict “no dickheads” policy, and it looks like another Aussie music festival has figured out another trick to stop idiots at their event.

Darwin Summer Session music festival this year implemented a strict “no shirts off” policy in attempts to lower the level of festival douchebaggery, to which it allegedly has, as the often hilarious NT News reports.

According to the music festival’s marketing Manager, Amanda Pernechele, the 5000 strong crowd at Mindil beach was “fantastic”, stating that they “didn’t have many problems at all with security or people being rough”,  “I think it was to do with our rules that shirts have to stay on” she said.

Pernechele went on to explain that the festival headlined by the likes of dance titans Crookers as well as Uberjak’d, Savage, Helena, Tonite Only – and recent Like A Version legend, Kilter, created a sense of love in the air, with NT police making only nine arrests for a various offences including disorderly behaviour and violence.

She humorously noted that “A lot of these gym-goers and that sort of thing love showing off their big muscles and that’s great but just do it from under a singlet,” saying that the event organiser, Guy Gunne, “is massive on not making a music festival about meat heads and about throwing out anyone without a shirt.”

“There were signs everywhere saying ‘no shirt no entry’ and it really changed it and made it more about the music” said Pernechele. With such positive outcomes, maybe more Aussie music festival will implement a similar policy.
