Taras Hrubyj-Piper from Sydney’s reggae-influenced duo F-POS has been sharing guitar tutorials of classic Aussie songs for the better part of a decade. Now, it’s time for you to learn some of these iconic tunes!
As we’re well aware, our homegrown music here in Australia is some top-notch stuff. As much as we wish that we could come up with some brilliance to enter into the Aussie music scene ourselves, sometimes we’ve got to settle to the fact that we may never be as brilliant as the greats. Luckily, we can still cover some iconic tunes, and pretend we’ve got a slice of the rock star life that we so envy.
With the help of Taras – one part of the Sydney duo F-POS – we’re well on our way to learning some of the best songs that Australia has to offer by way of learning the chords on guitar. For over eight years, Taras has been posting guitar tutorials for budding musicians, covering the best of the best such as the iconic Ruby Fields, Brit-pop influenced DMA’s, breezy Sticky Fingers, alt-rockers Hockey Dad, and fun-loving outfit Skegss.
Sure, we get it – you’ve likely seen all those other, lesser tutorials online and remembered how difficult the tutor made it all seem, showcasing their inimitable skills while you struggle to get down the fingers of a C chord. Fear not though, Taras has that covered, ensuring that every single video is perfect for seasoned veterans of the music world, or newcomers who just want to take a crack at show of their favourite tunes.
Sharing the tutorial by pairing it with the original audio track for each song, Taras shows viewers how they can easily learn Aussie songs step-by-step, shouting out each chord as the song progresses, showing how easy it is to gain skills on your favourite songs. To keep the tutorials a bit fun, Taras also throws in a few little quirky tidbits as he goes on.

Tutorials aren’t the only thing that Taras has up his sleeve. Along with Patrick ‘Paddy’ Cornwall, their band F-POS has just put out their latest single ‘Life Turns On’ featuring multi-instrumentalist Melissah Mirage as Moody Beach, and the ever-mesmerising Shogun And The Sheets.
“We wrote this song as an olive branch to life: a handshake to a hurt friend, a kiss to a lover, understanding of the pain we cause to others and ourselves, and through it all, a dogged hope to be, do, and feel better,” the duo state. “Life is hard and life is worth living. We let it go.”
